Manni you mentioned you'd managed to get hold of a phone number of a spammer (entry on the news page), which reminded me there's an antispam website with lots of amusing recorded phone calls to spammers: waronspam.com
…So I went on the forum there passed on Mr Zhang's phone number to those guys (got in a plug for chongqed.org too) Check out my forum positing.
I think they are interested taking up the mission. Maybe you can provide them with more information on Mr Zhang. Which wiki's did he spam? Which sites was he promoting? – Halz - 30th Oct 04
I didn't realise, but you can't see my forum positing unless you register with the waronspam forums. One of the waronspam dudes actually tried calling Mr Zhang to wind him up! He got through to a chinese guy who didn't speak english. Guess we shouldn't be too suprised about that. He posted mp3 recordings of the phone call on there, but if we want to inflict the full hilarious waronspam.com treatment we'll need to find the phone numbers of some english speaking wiki spammers. – Halz - 31st Oct 04
That was pretty hilarious (and hopefully not too expensive). I'm still wondering whether I should be surprised to learn that these idiots don't speak English. Why aren't they spamming Chinese resources then? – Manni
Probably because that would annoy Chinese users who they want as customers. If they attack sites of other languages their potential customers likely won't ever know about it. But thats what chongqed.org is for. – Joe
