News from the chongqed.org wiki
Since this wiki is still brand new and I'm constantly playing with the code and the configuration, here is a news page to keep you up to date with changes and other important wiki news:
2005
- Apr, 6 – I restructured my OddMuse hacks a bit so that all the spam catching and content banning stuff now lives in its own module. Viewing of CaughtSpam is now implemented as a new action. There was no change to the functionality, but look out for possible bugs. I plan to release this module soon on the OddMuse:Extensions page.
- Apr, 4 – When AntiSpamDan catches some spam, it will set a cookie with the value 'spammer' set to 'YES'. This has been going on for quite a while now, but until today, the cookie was only set and never read. Today, I implemented a very nasty redirect if the cookie says that the user is a spammer. Details of the redirect link can be found on Slashdot. Try only with greatest care if you have to.
- Mar, 31 – The Preferences page now gives you the possibility to influence the size of the textarea used for editing. The number of rows and columns of the textarea can now be stored in your cookie.
- Mar, 31 – I installed the Local Anchor Extension. This gives us the ability to set anchors in pages so we can link to them from a table of contents on the top of the page. I used it on AntiSpamLinks.
- Mar, 31 – Extended OddMuse to provide us with a private area that is only visible to users that have an editor password. Other users will not be able to see or edit any page whose name starts with 'Private'. More information can be found on the AboutPrivateArea page.
2004
- Dec, 16 – I implemented a diff function for the CaughtSpam stuff. You should now be able to easily see what spammers have added or deleted when trying to spam us. Note that this will only work for spam that was caught after I implemented this feature. The spam currently on CaughtSpam will not be affected. – Manni - 2004-12-16 13:41
Thanks. That will be a big help. Also I assume the edit by nobody on the CaughtSpam page today was your spam prevention mechanism's automatic edit. We should give it a name or at least something better than nobody. How about AntiSpamDan or just SpamBlocker?. - Joe - 2004-12-16 21:55 UTC
- Dec, 15 – Even more hacking. If spam is caught, the RecentChanges will be updated and the CaughtSpam page will show as updated. The summary will show the spammer's IP address.
- Dec, 8 – I have hacked the oddmuse sources a bit and implemented link checking: If links outside of a pre or nowiki tag are encountered that match the chongqed.org blacklist of links, the page cannot be saved and the spam is tugged away along with the IP address of the spammer. I hope we will not be seeing any more gghggh.com spam now and I hope that you won't have any trouble editing, chongqing, etc.
- Nov. 11 – I upgraded the wiki to the latest version of Oddmuse. You may have to set your Preferences again. This time, I try to use the Oddmuse script without any hacks of my own. That's why the navigation links at the top traded places with the page title, e.g. If you see any glitches, please let me know.
- Nov. 4 – I installed the signature extension that makes it very easy to leave a signature on discussion pages. Simply enter one of the four magic strings at the end of your comment. Here's a preview:
- Sept. 24 – We reached a milestone in chongqing history. A spammer was stupid enough to spam the chongqed wiki. Since he logged in Joe even made him a user page dsfsfd.
- Aug. 20 – Implemented a Preferences page where you can set up your username, password, timezone, and user style sheet.
