EasyChongqing

This is a discussion about copy & past textareas, and other ideas to make it easier to add chonqing links to your wiki / website. i.e Once spammers are included in the database, how can we make it easier to chonq them? For discussing ideas for easier spammer submission see SubmitSpammerForm.

Hi, about the copy & paste thing. I actually was meaning a textarea with all the chongq links. So every now and then one could copy & paste the whole list on their own wiki or blog. Again though, it's no big deal ;) You don't have to do that.

I think this was just another addition (and good idea) and Manni just hasn't got to implementing something like your idea yet. If not I am sure we can convince him. You guys convinced me. – Joe

OK. Now I got it. Should be no big deal to get a page like that. I just need some time to add this to the script. Give me a few days and when I'm done I'll report it here. – Manni

I like this idea. I want to be able describe the problem of wiki spam on my web site, and then show a whole shed load of chongqing links, just to boost chongqed.org's general page rank, this textarea will make it much easier to do. Make a wiki markup version and HTML version of the entire keyword database. - Halz

Hi Halz and welcome to this wiki. A recent addition to chongqed.org is http://distribute.chongqed.org/ It was added for the purpose of autmatic chongqing. Currently, it lists the spammer, his keyword, and a chongqing url, all separated by tabs. Of course, we could change the format to allow for easier copy and paste. What do you think? – Manni

Instead of a textarea I was thinking of just serving a text page on the blacklist subdomain. That way it could be automaticlly downloaded. To prevent accidental server overload (if it becomes too popular) you should put a note that says download it at most twice a day. Its only updated manually probably at most once a day so there is no point in checking every few hours. My plan would be only the URLs. Some of the keywords spammers use are normal words that people may want to use in their wiki so you wouldn't want to blacklist them. – Joe

The chongqed blacklist is making progress after Manni had a nice IRC chat with some of the wiki software developers. It should be ready soon. – Joe

That's right. A beta version can be seen at http://blacklist.chongqed.org. --Manni

Lastest chongqing links

An idea which would be quick to implement. "Last 50 spammer/keywords added". Useful for me to see if you've added my submission recently. – Halz - 2004-12-17 08:50 UTC

When I was trying to sleep last night, I had the exact same idea. We could handle it using the wiki. A single page that always get the latest chongqing links as its contents. If we find a good way of summarizing this, you should be able to find any spammers added to the db in the last 14 days without a problem from that page's history. – Manni - 2004-12-17 15:18

When I was trying to get off the computer last night to go to sleep I was wondering about using the wiki for this too. If it weren't for the trying to get off I would have posted then. I guess sleep deprived brains think alike. Some thing to add, as long as that page is writeable only by the script the script could just check the length and keep the last 100 lines or something. It could also be done with a normal html page, but if you have a good interface to the wiki going it may be easier to use the wiki. – Joe - 2004-12-17 15:47 UTC

Seems that you were even more tired than I was. I wasn't thinking about scripting anything (yet). But since the mass chongqing form/script that we use returns a list of chongqing links, I was thinking about simply copying these and entering them here: MostRecentlyChongqedSpam. – Manni - 2004-12-18 13:33

I made the submit form give you a tracking id after a successful submission. I'll make sure that you'll see this tracking id in the summary of the different versions of MostRecentlyChongqedSpam. – Manni - 2004-12-20 12:11

Auto distributed 'Chongqed' pages

It ocurred to me that these latest spammings should actually be the one's we are most interested in stealing pank rank of, because it seems that spammers move on to new keywords after a while (maybe because they are hired by new customers for their 'SEO services'). The most damaging thing for them, and the thing they are most likely to notice, is if these latest keywords get heavily chongqed.

Another thought is, what if lots of wikis all over wiki-land had a dedicated chonqing page, which chongqed.org automatically populates (by scripted edit form submission), with latest keywords. That way chongq.org powerfully grabs the page rank of recent spam keywords… exactly what the spammer was trying to do. haha!

Scripted edit form submission is a bit tricky, but the spammers seem to manage it! Of course the scripts could run from their end (ask wiki owners to set up such scripts), but we know that the most troubled wikis are those with inactive owners, so to automatically distribute chonqing links could be quite nifty. – Halz - 2004-12-17 16:30 UTC

Sounds like an interesting idea. But I suspect not too many wikis will participate if it requires any extra work on their end. I am sure a few would sign up for the auto distributed chongq page. But we couldn't make it too long and if its changing all the time it won't do much good in Google. Possibly a hash based on the site's url that determines which chongqed links that particular page gets. It would be best if it were topic based so some sites would have prescription drugs, others would have dating services, etc. Keeping to related topics should improve the relevance for the links. Possibly when the site signs up they could choose from a few predefined topics. That also means that not every wiki must be updated every time something is added to the database. – Joe - 2004-12-17 18:34 UTC
